Welcome to this week’s Five from David
Your exercise tip – manageable not extreme
To achieve good health and a comfortable fitness level to maintain a high quality of life, you don’t need to be going to extremes. It may mean you need to get out of your comfort level a little, but your routine should be manageable. Pushing the body too hard and endlessly, will build residual fatigue which can lead to overtraining injuries and illness.
Make your exercise manageable and regular for a good balance in life.
Your health tip – fresh is best
Having fruit and vegetables that have been freshly harvested is a great way of ensuring there are less loss of nutrients and the of the flavours we all enjoy. Look out for the local market stalls or find an independent, green grocer that is close by. Get too know them and you will have great advice and a good chance to have the best.
Exercise of the week
This week I will cover an exercise for impact through the bones, stability and cardiovascular exercise called the skipping crossover.
This a great exercise to try at home and can really help with running stability and quality.
- Start at a slower pace, getting the rhythm of crossing the legs, before increasing speed. Try 30 second sets first, then build from there.
- Try and think to hit lightly on the toes, not ‘banging’ down.
- If you are getting it easily, add a squat in between each cross over step.
Your life tip
Allow some extra time in your routine and travels for pauses. Stopping and enjoying brief moments of beauty, friendship or just holding someone’s hand, can make life somewhat more bearable on tough days.
This week’s wise words
‘A firm tree does not fear storms.’
Have a great week and keep healthy in 2016. David.
